Everybody loves a bit of retro nowadays, from trawling vintage boutiques, to grabbing a bargain off of an online auction site, to even clambering through your parents wardrobes; the truth is we all love retro!
The first rule about being retro with your style is to 'not be bound by rules'. Retro is all about putting odd, vintage pieces together, not about matching. So bear in mind that just because your shoes are from the 1970s, the rest of you doesn't have to be. As well as this, ladies, it is essential that you don't let your figure pigeonhole your look. If you have a straight boyish figure then the 1920s and 1960s are for you, if on the other hand you have a curvy frame, then the 1940s and 1950s will suit you down to a tee. But this is not the rule, go with what you feel suits you, don’t be pigeonholed!
It is also essential when buying retro, vintage items; that you don't get ripped off. Many people bump up the price of an item just because it is old and perhaps designer. Don't allow yourself to be conned!
Now the rules are out of the way, I will hence forth and name my favourite retro items!
Firstly a leather jacket will never go out of style. A battered, cool leather jacket will last a lifetime as well as add a vintage feel to any outfit. Secondly and perhaps most importantly are the accessories. You can get some real bargains in antique stores of vintage boutiques. From a vintage pearl necklace to the ultra retro Ray Ban classics that are the Wayfarer. These sunglasses are uber cool and so retro.
So there you have it, shop smart and shop retro. Become unique and really make a statement!
